Geography is an academic discipline that is intertwined with other disciplines and is no longer limited to the study of natural environment. On the one side, geography attaches significance to both residential and non-residential environments and the impacts of human activity on human environments. On the other side, tourism industry has an enormous impact on the environment and human society. Therefore, the two disciplines merged into a broad field of study called geography and tourism planning. It aims to train experts who are familiar with tourism industry management and planning, know about the interaction between tourism industry and the environment, and seek to minimize the negative impacts of tourism industry development. In sum, they should be able to do strategic planning for sustainable development of tourism.
